The image of Blayney Shire is gradually changing from a traditionally agricultural base to the current times where industry and mining play a much greater role in the economics of the Shire. Constant marketing and a close working relationship with government agencies has gradually seen industrial development take place. Our first major industry, Hormal Cerebos, closed its operation in 1981. In 1989, Nestle purchased the site together with adjoining land including Blayney Foods, and built a new pet food plant, Friskies Pet Care Pty Ltd exporting pet food to Asia and the Pacific.

While the Shire has a strong background in heritage and agriculture, the area is emerging as an employment base with a trend towards mining. The development of Blayney as a Cold Store Warehouse centre is gaining momentum, coupled with the road rail intermodal terminal. The Cadia and Ridgeway Gold/Copper mines also bringing wealth and jobs with the outlook for further mining development looking bright. more ..
