Liquid Trade Waste Policy - Published: 28 Aug 2006

Sewerage systems are generally designed to cater for waste from domestic sources that are essentially of predictable strength and quality. Council may accept trade waste into its sewerage system as a service to businesses and industry.

?

This policy is concerned with the approval process for liquid trade wastes discharged into Council???s sewerage system and the levying of appropriate sewerage and liquid trade waste fees and charges. It has been developed to ensure the proper control of liquid trade waste discharged to the sewerage system and hence protection of public health, worker safety, the environment, and Council???s sewerage system. The policy also promotes waste minimisation and water conservation.

Policy for the acceptance of Septic Tank Pan Waste for the Sewerage System - Published: 28 Aug 2006

This policy applies to the acceptance of septic tank, chemical toilet, pan contents to Council’s sewerage system.

Council’s sewerage systems are designed to safely collect, transfer and treat wastewater, which is predominately domestic sewage. Septic tank, chemical toilet, pan contents may contain substances different to, and/or at greater concentrations than those found in normal domestic sewage. Controls are therefore required to ensure that the discharge of septic tank, chemical toilet, pan contents to the sewerage system does not compromise the health and safety of Council’s employees or the general public, cause damage to Council’s infrastructure, result in sewerage system overflows or adversely impact sewage treatment processes, effluent and biosolids management or the environment.

Poor septic tank and pan waste management may cause odour problems and corrosion of sewer pumping stations and sewage treatment facilities. This policy is concerned with the approval process for the acceptance of septic tank, chemical toilet, pan contents into Council’s sewerage system and the levying of appropriate fees and charges. It has been developed to ensure the proper control of the above waste discharged to the sewerage system and hence protection of public health, worker health and safety, the environment, and the Council’s sewerage system.
